Poinsettia Heights is a residential neighborhood in northeast Fort Lauderdale, west of Federal Highway and north of Sunrise Boulevard. Its streets run from NE 15th Avenue on the west to Lake Melva and NE 20th Avenue on the east, with the Middle River forming the northern edge and NE 13th Street separating it from neighboring Lake Ridge. Middle River Terrace is next door, and Victoria Park, Las Olas and the beach are a short drive south and east.

History and Character

The neighborhood was first developed as "North Ridge" by Gill Construction Company after World War II, and most original homes date from the late 1940s through the 1960s. Today it has roughly 1,030 single-family homes. In 1989 residents formed the Poinsettia Heights Civic Association to seek rezoning, and as a result the neighborhood is single-family, with townhomes and condos allowed only along its two main thoroughfares. Original ranch homes of about 1,100 to 2,700 square feet sit alongside a growing number of new modern houses, some on the Middle River.
